Cookbooks and Guidelines in 2017

In 2016 and 2017 I worked on design and content of the Siemens Cookbooks for: Mobile Apps, Social Media, Online Banner and an Application Guide.

The Cookbook for Online Banners included more than 50 exemplary templates for different formats and animations examples. Since 2012 I constantly support Virtual Identity Munich with governance tasks for this client.

Transstruktura is a group of young architects with the goal to link innovative concepts with a realistic and pragmatic implementation. Since their studies at the Bauhaus-University Weimar, the group is striving to realize a common  form language that is focused on the joy of experimentation.

At the border between architecture, urbanism and new media, transstruktura is based on a design approach that is extensive as well as highly interdisciplinary.

Design-update of the existing pages for courses and products. Conceptional improvements and contemporary interface design.

Key steps:
Status-quo analysis, first draft (hand made sketches), presentation of the core ideas and drafts, screendesign, execution together with the development (agile process)

A hand made sketch is the best solution to early connect to the client in order to explain the main idea and approach. Sketches do not focus on details and can therefore outline a concept that everyone can relate to.

App Design Guidelines

A designer working in the field of corporate communications often has to deal with governance tasks.

The best way to reduce the amount of time spent on ‹design advice‹ is to produce lean, easy to use guidelines and templates.

The Siemens App Design Guidelines are are made to ensure that the corporate identity is implemented correctly and that the style and tonality of the brand can be identified on any device.

One of the main challenges for these guidelines was to create a clear understanding that a design for an iOS app cannot be used for Android devices. Developers and managers often tried to save time by just coping iOS applications for Android or vice versa.

The resulting guidelines with more that 50 pages helped to improve the quality and consistency of the applications.They are constantly improved and updated. A digital version of these guidelines is the next logical step.
